It’s week five of the North American Call of Duty World League, and it seems the CoD Gods have been smiling down on us once again. We’ve seen shaky starts, roster moves and even surprise retirements this season, and somehow there is yet more drama coming this afternoon to close out the week. It’s finally time for the heavyweight matchup that everyone has been waiting for. Fan favourites OpTic Gaming will be taking on FaZe Clan in a battle for the top spot in the league, in what is sure to be an unmissable match.
OpTic Gaming (4/11, Skybet) vs FaZe Clan (2/1, Skybet)
Being the first time these teams have met in Stage 2, we don’t have any previous matchups to look at. If we cast our minds back to Stage 1, OpTic Gaming actually took the win in both of their matches against FaZe, with some spectacularly close matches throughout. While 2-0 definitely doesn’t tell the whole story, it does act as a good indication of how this match up might go, given each team has stuck with their original roster all the way through Black Ops 3. These consist of Scump, FormaL, Crimsix and Karma for OpTic; and Clayster, Enable, ZooMaa and Attach for FaZe. From a purely historical standpoint, OpTic have the definite advantage, but there’s little reason to count FaZe out so early.
FaZe Clan have had a very solid Stage 2. They are currently 7-2 in the league, and actually hold the top spot over OpTic Gaming. OpTic also hold a 7-2 record, but lag behind with a 66% map win/loss record, notably lower than FaZe’s 72%. FaZe have certainly pulled off some convincing wins against tough competition throughout Stage 2, including a 3-0 win over Team EnVyUs and a 3-1 win over H2k Gaming.
This match is certainly too close to definitively call. When two sides with the skill of OpTic and FaZe go head to head, anything can happen. Looking at these odds, we feel FaZe Clan are being overlooked somewhat. With such a strong record so far in stage two (earning the top spot in the league) we see no reason to assume FaZe hold less of a chance of victory than OpTic Gaming. We suspect that the large number of OpTic fans that bet each week have skewed the odds somewhat. At these rates, we would (for the first time in a long time) recommend betting against the fan favourites.
Recommended Bet: FaZe Clan (2/1, Skybet)
