How did we get here? Where did the time go? Week 8 of the European Call of Duty World League is almost over, leaving just 12 more matches to be played next week before we’re going full speed into Stage 2 finals across the globe shortly after that. Today though, we’re going to be taking a look at one of the most anticipated matchups of the European season, between heavyweights Splyce and Team Infused as they battle between the 2nd and 3rd seeds. Both of these teams had somewhat successful visits to North America in the past week for MLG Anaheim and will be looking to prove themselves as among the EU top dogs.
Splyce(4/5, Skybet) vs Team Infused (10/11, Bet365)
It seems the bookies agree, this is going to be one of the closest matches you’ll see all year. These teams haven’t matched up in over a month, and a lot has changed since then including weapon patches and shifts in the AR meta. First, let’s have a look at what’s going for the Splyce squad. It’s always worth taking a look back and seeing what history has to say. On the 12th of May, Splyce took the series 3-2. Here’s how the maps broke down:
As you can see, the maps were pretty close across the board. The question is, have Splyce held on to the advantage they had over Infused a month ago? Well, their recent performance has been fairly impressive, ignoring an uncharacteristic 3-0 loss to the new LDLC squad last week. Add to this that Splyce have a match against HyperGames first and we would argue that Splyce might come into this game warmed up and ready to go against a cold Infused squad.
What, then, is going for Team Infused? They too have a mixed recent performance, featuring many victories and an unexpected 3-0 loss to Exertus eSports. Something which may give Infused fans some additional hope is their top 8 placing at Anaheim, comfortably landing a spot above Splyce in the overall placings. We also know that Infused have a great Hardpoint record, which may counteract any warming up Splyce get against HyperGames. More importantly, HyperGames may very well beat Splyce comfortably, and moving from a loss straight into another series can be devastating for a teams communication and overall performance.
We’re going to give Infused the nod in this one, but this game is balancing on a knife edge.
